NSTA Webinar for CoCoRaHS
Two citizen science networks will be presented during this web seminar. Both involve networks that collect weather observations. One is the Cooperative Observer Program (COOP) which is a partnership between the National Weather Service and citizen volunteers in every U.S. state and territory. This program has been in existence since 1890. The other citizen science network that will be covered during this web seminar is the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, & Snow (CoCoRaHS) network. This program is run by the Colorado Climate Center at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Weather and climate education is an important part of CoCoRaHS. Student and teacher participation is welcomed. Data from this project is used for weather forecasting and monitoring, severe weather alerts, climate studies, agriculture, recreation and for instruction.
